Develop New Habits: Tennis Warmup

This post is part of our Player Development Program.

Post Audience: Juniors 11 – 13 and 14 – 18

There will be times when you’re on the court and it may seem like you’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work. Your game is still the same, your movement is still the same, your mental outlook is still the same.

This is when it’s time for a reset.

Start developing some new habits to break the pattern of what you’ve always been doing. Today we’ll go over a few warm up drills you can do to add some variety into your daily tennis practice.

FOOTWORK

We’ve all done the ‘X’ drill, Side to Side, Front to Back and others as a footwork warm up routine. But the best footwork on the planet can be found with pro football players. So why not learn something from them? Here’s a small set of routines you can use to help with your footwork before you get on the court.

RESISTANCE WARM UP

Probably one of the best fitness items for a tennis player is a resistance band. You can do literally 100+ exercises with it, and if you don’t have one you can buy resistance bands online.

Hope the above exercise routines help change up your warm up pattern and keep you interested to working hard on the court!

“…I said I have to try something so I was more aggressive. I went to the net three times in one game, which I never do.” – Simona Halep, on her win from 1 set down, and 0 – 2 in the second set, of her only Grand Slam title – Roland Garros 2018.
